Fissure Sealants

Fissure Sealants

What are fissure sealants?

Sealants are protective coatings, which are applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth with the risk of decay. They are done without any etching and they completely seal off grooves, preventing any microorganism that cause decay from getting in. These chewing surfaces are still prone to decay even after fluoride treatment; therefore sealants should be applied in addition.
